Contamination issues are not limited to particles. Processing additives to packaging films and chemical compatibility can also be of critical importance.

In the past, PARTICLES were the enemy. They still are, even the very small ones, submicron in size. Now, issues as important as particles are ionic contamination, outgassing and non volatile residue (NVR). Particles can (and do) come from everywhere; clothing, humans, moving machine parts, poor housekeeping: Most common in-use materials within clean rooms can and do contribute particles, some outgass, some contribute NVRs and ionic contamination. Unless the user is aware, the packaging could contribute one or all of these contaminants.
